X-Games Skateboard
Since 2017, Minneapolis has been the host city for Summer X-Games. For their inaugural skate deck, I wanted to submit a design that highlights some features of Minneapolis using simplified graphic elements.
Squiggly lines and linear symmetry illustrate the Mississippi River forming “Twin Cities” with Minnesota’s neighboring city and state capital, St. Paul. Repetitive triangles suggest the shape of the state tree, the Norway Pine, and the vast network of other pines surrounding the Twin Cities. Concentric circles radiating from the X-Games logo speak to the spinning, twisting and difficult stunts performed by contestants.
